TEAM TROON 4/10/23

Week of April 10

A few silver linings for Team Troon emerged from the stormy weather that dominated The Masters at Augusta National in Georgia last week. Matthew Fitzpatrick and Gary Woodland provided the brightest spots, finishing tied for 10th and 14th, respectively. Fitzpatrick, who is still shaking off the effects of a neck injury from earlier this year, played steady golf, carding scores of 70-72-72-70 to end up 4-under-par overall, 8 shots behind champion Jon Rahm. It was his best Masters finish since 2016, when he tied for seventh place. “Yeah, I felt comfortable out there,” he said after his final round on Sunday. “No neck issues. Driving was good. Irons were much better. Positive week overall.”

For Woodland, it was his best result so far at The Masters. His opening round 68 had him near the early lead before rounds of 72-73-72 left him 9 shots behind Rahm.

Justin Thomas, Alex Noren, Bubba Watson, and Troon investor Rory McIlroy all failed to make the cut, with Thomas missing out by just a single stroke. Thomas, Fitzpatrick, Woodland, and Matt Kuchar are in the field for this week’s RBC Heritage being played at the Pete Dye-designed Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Kuchar won the event in 2014 and has five overall Top-10 finishes, including a tie for third last year, while Thomas has posted one Top-10 finish (a tie for eighth in 2020) there in four prior appearances. Fitzpatrick’s best effort in eight appearances so far was a tie for fourth in 2021.

On the LPGA Tour, Yealimi Noh will tee it up this week at the LOTTE Championship at Hoakalei Country Club in Ewa Beach, Oahu, Hawaii. She’s looking to improve on her tie for 56th finish last year. She also finished tied for 33rd in 2021, when the tournament was played at the Troon-managed Kapolei Golf Club on Oahu.
