Rising Swede

Slowly but surely, Team Troon’s Alex Noren is picking up some positive momentum heading into the home stretch of the PGA Tour’s regular season. At last week’s 3M Open in Minnesota, the 41-year-old Swede finished tied for 13th, his third-best finish of the year and his third Top 25-finish in his last four starts. Currently 63rd in the Official World Golf Rankings, his scorecard included rounds of 71-66-68-66. Matt Kuchar tied for 43rd, while Justin Thomas and Gary Woodland missed the cut. Next up for Noren, Kuchar, Thomas, and Woodland is the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina this week.

On PGA CHAMPIONS, Colin Montgomerie and the entire field ran into some strong winds and rainy weather at The Senior Open Championship at Royal Porthcawl in Wales. Conditions were so tough that, according to Tour officials, the scoring averages were higher than any senior major played in the past 15 years. Monty finished 68th. The PGA CHAMPIONS next event is the Boeing Classic outside of Seattle, Washington, August 11-13. The Scot finished tied for 37th there last year, but has four Top 25s in seven career appearances.
