MONTY RISING

A sizzling opening round of 66, his lowest score so far this season, put Colin Montgomerie in a tie for first place tie after the first round at the Insperity Invitational in Texas. A second round 74 dropped him into a tie for a fifth place, but a closing round of 68 elevated him back into third, his best PGA CHAMPIONS result since a second-place finish at the 2020 SAS Championship. Currently ranked 18th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings, Montgomerie hopes to keep that positive momentum going this week in the Mitsubishi Electric Classic at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia.

On the PGA TOUR, Team Troon will be well represented in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, this week. Justin Thomas returns to the course where he won his first major, the 2017 PGA Championship. Matt Fitzpatrick, Matt Kuchar, Alex Noren (who missed the cut this past weekend in the Mexican Open at Vidanta), Gary Woodland (who ended up tied for 39th in the Mexican Open) and Troon investor Rory McIlroy (a three-time winner of the event, most recently in 2021 at Quail Hollow) are also in the field.

Despite being ranked 10th in driving distance on the LPGA Tour, Yealimi Noh is still looking to find the very best of her overall game after missing the cut with rounds of 74-76 at the JM Eagle Championship Presented by Plastpro in Los Angeles. She has some time off before returning to the action at the Cognizant Founders Cup at Upper Montclair Country Club in New Jersey May 11-14.
