The PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, took a toll on Team Troon. Troon investor Rory McIlroy was the top performer with a tie for 7th, following up an opening round of 71 with three consecutive rounds of 69.

Defending champion Justin Thomas did make the cut, ending up in a tie for 65th, but Matt Fitzpatrick, Gary Woodland, Matt Kuchar, and Alex Noren all missed the cut. Noren is right back at it this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas.

Better news for Team Troon: Kuchar and Noren earned full exemptions into this year’s U.S. Open through the current Official World Golf Ranking. Kuchar is No. 51 and will compete in the U.S. Open for the 20th time. He was low amateur in his first U.S. Open back in 1998. Noren is ranked No. 60 and has played in nine U.S. Opens. They join defending champion Fitzpatrick, Thomas, 2019 U.S Open champion Woodland, and 2011 U.S. Open champion McIlroy in the field June 15-18 at Los Angeles Country Club.

Keep an eye on Colin Montgomerie at this week’s KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, which will be played at the brand new PGA Frisco in Texas. Not only has he won the event twice before, in 2014 and 2015, but he is ranked 18th in the season-long Charles Schwab Cup and heads to the Lone Star State with Top-25 finishes in his last three starts under his belt.
