A FOR ALEX

To say Alex Noren has had a tough year would be an understatement. The Swede, who turns 41 on July 12th, hasn’t had a top-10 since last November (when he tied for fourth at the Texas Children’s Houston Open), and he had also missed the cut in eight of his last 13 starts. Which is why his tie for ninth place at the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club in Michigan is a positive sign that his game is finally trending in the right direction.

Shooting rounds of 68-68-67-67 put him at 18-under, six strokes behind Rickie Fowler who eventually won the tournament on the first playoff hole. Noren’s stats for the week painted the picture for his improved performance: top 10 in Strokes Gained Putting, Strokes Gained Overall, Sand Saves, and Scrambling. Plus, just two bogeys in 72 holes. Team Troon member Justin Thomas was also in field, but a second round 69 could not overcome an opening round of 76, and he missed the cut.

Next up for Team Troon member Matt Kuchar is the John Deere Classic in Iowa this weekend, while Thomas, Matt Fitzpatrick, Gary Woodland, and Troon investor Rory McIlroy will be tuning up for The Open Championship being played at Royal Liverpool in England the following week.

On PGA CHAMPIONS, Colin Montgomerie ended up tied for 23rd at the U.S. Senior Open at Sentry World in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He’s got this week off before heading to Firestone Country Club in Ohio for the Kaulig Companies Championship.
